I went downtown in the hopes of getting some car light trails after a storm went through. When the storm decided to bypass downtown instead, I ended up trying to capture the lightning behind a local icon, the Quaker Oats cereal factory. I really enjoyed the reflections from the plant, combined with the moodiness of the clouds. Unfortunately, the storm proved uncooperative in this change of focus as well, resulting in only cloud-to-cloud lightning being captured, instead of the desired cloud to ground form.
24:365 - Open: Cars head along the open road to the open countryside.
22:365 - Soft: I greeted the weather this morning with excitement. Rain and fog, what could be better? I wanted to try experimenting with different water droplet shots. I liked this approach for more of an abstract shot of an intersection, although I'm sure my coworkers thought I was crazy as I spent 10 minutes finding the perfect position for the car to line up the shot.
31:365 - Skyline: What makes for gorgeous sunrises? Clouds. What makes for horrible shots of lunar eclipses? Clouds. Today's picture should tell you what I saw this morning! I'm beginning to think Iowa doesn't want me to see any stellar phenomena.
72:365 - Yellow (and other colors): A benefit to daylight savings time is actually having a chance to see the sunset after getting home. Tonight looked promising, so I drove out to Lowe park to see if it would turn out. While slightly cold, it was worth the trip.
87:365 - Prompt Free: No prompt needed when you get up and can't see across the road because it's too foggy. Stopped along the way to work to take a picture of a busy intersection in the fog.
276:365 - Blue Hour: A cloudy blue hour as the storms roll into town. Not the sharpest of images, as I used a trash can as an improvised tripod. I need to remember to bring the real deal, as there isn't enough light by the time we get downtown anymore. Yay for fall?

279:365 - Flooded Falls: Normally I don't think the Horseshoe falls at a local park are anything spectacular, but I decided to see if the heavy rain we're getting would improve them. Taking a chance for a hike between rain storms, it paid off, with multiple shots of the falls that I liked. This one was my favorite, so it gets the pick as today's photo.

Lightning burst over traffic racing home: My second night of storm chasing this week, I attempted to capture some of the awesome lightning show. For this one, I couldn't decide if I liked it better in black and white or color.

22:52 - Sunset Express: With a forecast of a day of rain followed by clouds breaking up near sunset, I knew we were in for a gorgeous sunset if we were lucky. After driving around, I almost missed it as I detoured through residential neighborhoods to avoid a major road closure. Luckily, I stumbled down a side street to this random railroad crossing over a gravel road and managed to capture a few shots right before my camera batteries died! Worth it though!

Rushless Rush Hour: Tropical Storm Cristobal brought some rain to the area today, leading to a chance to get out downtown at rush hour. You wouldn't know it looking down 1st St though, with only a handful of cars out and about.
40:52 - Woodlands: Note to self, it's ok to step off the trail sometimes. This gully caught my eye, and a quick 40 foot trek off trail setup the perfect shot.
48:52 - Reflected Sunsets: After seeing a story about the installation of a new sculpture that included a giant silver ball, I knew what I needed to do. Capture a sunset against it!
